Complexity Reduction in Iterative MIMO Receivers Based on EXIT Chart Analysis

چکیده
The application of the Turbo principle in MIMO receivers allows to achieve near-capacity performance with a number of different MIMO detection algorithms. However, this high performance is paid for by a substantial increase in complexity, as detector and decoder have to be run multiple times. In this paper, we show that an analysis of detector and decoder transfer curves in the EXIT chart can be used to select a suitable detection algorithm and parametrization of the outer channel decoder, such that the overall receiver complexity can be substantially decreased while retaining its original performance. In order to enable a flexible adaptation of the receiver parameters, we also propose a simple “measurement device” for mutual information that can be used to steer the parametrization, based on the quality of the soft information at the output of detector and decoder.

Exit charts for turbo receivers in MIMO systems
Iterative exchange of information between a decoder and a front end receiver was shown to improve the performance when comparing to non-iterative approach. This so-called turbo processing may be described using Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts which were already used in case of turbo decoders and turbo-equalizers. This work extends the EXIT charts technique to describe the behavior ...
متن کاملIterative receivers for coded MIMO signaling
In this tutorial paper we describe iterative receivers that combine a soft decoder for a general space–time code with a spatialinterference canceler. The performance of these receivers is analyzed by using EXIT charts, a convenient graphical description that yields quite accurate results. By properly combining the EXIT characteristics of the canceler and of the decoder, the convergence behavior...
متن کاملA List Based Detection Technique for MIMO Systems 15
It is well known that multiple transmit and receive antennas can significantly increase the data carrying capacity of wireless systems (1) (3). Usually a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system requires a channel code to approach capacity (4). However, for such MIMO systems, the optimal joint maximum-likelihood (ML) detection using exhaustive search is too complex and is almost impossible....
متن کاملForced Convergence Decoding of LDPC Codes – EXIT Chart Analysis and Combination with Node Complexity Reduction Techniques
Recently, the concept of forced convergence decoding for Low-Density Parity-Check Codes has been introduced. Restricting the message passing in the iterative process to the nodes that still significantly contribute to the decoding result, this approach allows for substantial reduction in decoding complexity at negligible deterioration in performance. We analyze this novel technique using EXIT c...
متن کاملTurbo detection for MIMO systems: bit labeling and pre-coding
Bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative detection for MIMO systems demands an efficient APP detector that delivers soft information about the coded bits. The list-sequential detector is a reduced-complexity approximation to an exhaustive APP detector. It uses a tree search employing the stack algorithm to find dominant terms of the log-likelihood ratio. The commonly used symbol-by-symbo...
